…..another year over…..

As the song goes. Hard to believe but we’re heading towards this sites 10th birthday. Thanks for all your input and here we go into Gala year 46. Wow indeed. Hope all our readers had a great Christmas and have a very Happy New Year. Be safe and enjoy yourselves, wherever you are in the world and whatever you get up to this December 31st!

Christmas Lights Switch On

It was fantastic to see so many people in the Square this evening, the singing by the School Choirs and the Adult Choir was just what everyone needed to get in the festive spirit and as for the cold – well what better way to start Christmas than with a touch of frost nipping your nose!

Jingle Bells…..

Christmas Tree switch on is December the 1st in the Square. Plus that afternoon in the Community Centre, The Gala Christmas Village will open it’s doors and Santa will be in town to meet all the good boys and girls, maybe some naughty ones too!…
Come along and join in the switch on event as the countdown to Christmas starts for another year.

If anyone is interested in setting up a stall at our Christmas Village on Sat 1st December in St Patrick’s Community Centre, please e-mail chair@portaferrytown.com

Digital Switchover in Northern Ireland

While RTE1, 2, TG4 and RnaG are now being transmitted  from three Northern Ireland digital transmitters for the first time, these are only available on Freeview HD equipment. Likewise, the transmission standard used in the Republic is different to Freeview in the UK and while it can be received on Freeview HD equipment, some newer Freeview televisions (mpeg 4 compatible) may receive RTE, but will NOT receive the HD transmissions of BBC/ITV and CH4 – these are only available with a Freeview HD set or box.  Confused ? Well, just  think how an elderly friend or neighbour may be feeling! As a rule of thumb if you are replacing any equipment, make sure it is Freeview HD compatible.

For the first time RTE 1, 2, TV3, 3e, TG4, RTE News Now and the various RTE Radio channels are available in Portaferry from a transmitter in Co.Louth. You will need an aerial pointing at the Clermont Carn transmitter to receive these channels. Unlike the RTE services carried in Northern Ireland, these channels will not be “rights restricted”.
