Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

As the 40th Gala Year comes to close and (hopefully) everyone settles down to enjoy the Christmas and New Year holidays, we like to say a big Thank You to everyone, especially all the people of Portaferry Town who throw themselves into Gala Week each year, also the various business folk of the Town who support us so well and those from outside who willingly come on board each July. Thanks too, to Jim Murdock from Ards Borough Council for all his help and support across the year. We hope everyone has a good rest over the next few weeks and we’re looking forward to Gala 2008.

Seasons Greetings too, to all our online visitors who drop by to keep in touch with Gala “goings on”, especially the regular reader logging in from Tonga, whoever you may be !

Brrrrrrrrr !

It was very cold, very windy and very wet, but that didn’t seem to put anyone off, yet again there was a great turnout in the Square for the switching on of the Christmas tree lights. A big Thank You to all the members of the various choirs the Mayor of Ards and of course to Santa for getting Christmas 2007 in Portaferry officially underway.

Would You like to switch on the lights ?

Buy a ticket on Dec 1st and if your number is drawn out you’ll be invited up onto the stage to switch on the Portaferry Christmas  lights. Tickets will be on sale all afternoon from the market house and the draw will take place at 4:40 in the Square.

Don’t forget we still have some copies of the Gala Memories book, if you have family or friends who now live abroad, why not mail them a copy for Christmas ? Details in the Gala Shop.

Keep Saturday December 1st free, as “you know who” will be in town checking his list is correct and that all the little Portaferry Folk have been good over the last year.

Come along and join in the fun from 1pm, with the big “switch on” taking place at 5pm, wrap up well and sing a few Christmas Carols as the 2007 festive season gets underway in the square.

Ghostly Galloween Update.

Today, the 28th of October, the Ghostly Galloween Village will be opening it’s doors down at the Caravan Park beside Exploris. Come along from 6pm in Fancy Dress and duck for apples, meet the Wish Fairy, have a bite to eat (necks not supplied) and then follow the ghosts along the special spooky walk to the Great Big Galloween Surprise.

Don’t be late, we won’t wait !!!

Here’s to Gala Week 2008 !

A big Thank You to everyone who attended the Gala AGM on Monday September the 3rd. It’s great to welcome new members “aboard” and with some great suggestions and ideas the Gala will hopefully survive for another 40 years !

Watch this space for news of future events and don’t forget if you couldn’t attend the AGM but would like to help in any way or make suggestions, just get in touch via this site.

Gala AGM

The Gala AGM takes place on Monday, 3rd of September, at 8.00pm in McNamara’s.

A number of the present members will be stepping down, due to family and work commitments.

If you’d like to join the committee or have any questions about the Gala and how it’s organised, please keep that Monday evening free and do feel free to attend.

Without a committee to organise it, there won’t be a Gala in 2008.
