Well, so ends another Gala Week and so starts the planning for the next. A very big THANKS to everyone who took part and for all the hard work put in by the float builders and “Gala Helpers”, for all the kind donations and of course the Sponsors.
Hard to believe but 2007 will see the 40th Portaferry Gala. If the weather and the atmosphere is anything as good at this years it’ll be one great big birthday celebration from one Saturday to the next.
Would the Gala Committee consider changing the 5-A-Side Competition from a Monday Evening to Tuesday Evening because there are other football competitions taking part at the same time in the football field and those competitors cannot enter 5-A-Side teams.
Not sure it\’s the Gala Committee who decide when they take place, it\’s the match organisers, but we\’ll pass the request on.
Hello, I just happened to be in Portaferry last saturday(22nd july), didnt know about the Gala, so yoou can imagine my surprise when a procession came around the corner with a coffin with a man in it holding a (or what looks like a) chamber pot. I was just wondering, what was that about?
Thank you
Ah….The Po ! It goes from winner of the Pub Float the previous year, to the new winner of the Float parade. The loss of the Gala Po is marked by a Wake and procession to it\’s new resting place.
