Sunday By the Shore

The Paper Boats really are back ! What a great turn out, it was like a scene from a Gala back in the 70’s and really fantastic to see.
People lined the walls around the Slip to cheer on (or boo!), the brave Paper Boaters (well, have YOU dipped in the tide recently ???).
Thanks to everyone who took part and to everyone who came along and joined in the fun day out . The Irish Dancers gave their usual fantastic display, Exploris brought along a Touch Tank, Jackie’s Paper Boats Floated out to sea, the BBQ sizzled, the Rescue Crew were on show in Lough and the Air. If you missed it, never fear lots more Gala Fun to come this week.

Weather

Well, a big thanks to everyone who came along yesterday – anyone who was out in the morning or early afternoon probably escaped the “Mad Rain” which appeared from nowhere at 3 O’Clock. Thankfully it didn’t dampen spirits on the Square, Saturday night, a great range of music and very enthusiastic bands – again, thanks to everyone who came along and apologies to anyone who tried to log on via the web-cam. Due to the heavy rain it wasn’t set up in time – should be up and running from Monday onwards. Pictures from Saturday are online now.

Gala Programme and the 2009 WebCam

09prog

It’s been on-line a few weeks and now it’s in the shops – get your 2009 Gala Programme around the town NOW !
Don’t forget there will be a webcam on the Gala Stage this year, so family and friends abroad can, either stay up very late or get up very early – (depends where in the world they are, I guess) and join in the fun.
If you’ve friends and family who’ll be away for Gala Week but would like to “join in” let them know !

2009 Gala Programme now on-line

Due to the general “credit crunch”, ferry fm isn’t broadcasting this year, we’ve decided to put the money towards more events throughout Gala Week – however, if there is enough interest from online visitors to this site, we will consider running the service as an online station for the week.

Would YOU listen on line ?

Would your friends and family abroad listen ?

It really is up to YOU.

If you would listen on line, let us know NOW, click here to e-mail us.

Gala 2009 Needs YOU !

How can YOU help ?

Suggest events so that the community gets the festival it wants.
Share the workload by joining the Committee or offer assistance with a particular event.
As sponsorship opportunities are greatly reduced this year, we’re running fundraising events in the run up to Gala 2009.

If you’d like to help with Portaferry Gala, why not join us ?

The Gala Committee meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm in the back lounge of McNamara’s, High Street.

Sad News

Our thoughts and sympathy go out to the family of  Frank Mc Carthy who passed away this week.

Frank was a well known figure about the town and could often be heard leading a song every weekend and of course over Gala Week from his pub Fiddler’s Green. (All the louder when they claimed the PO)

Frank will be sadly missed by not only his family, but by the many visitors who joined him in the bar over the years and sang their hearts out by the fire.

May He Rest in Peace.

Quiet on Set……

Last year Portaferry doubled as a Devon coastal town for The Invisibles…. this year it’s Yorkshire !

Anyone around the town this week can’t help but have noticed the WW2 Soldiers, GI’s, period cars and em, The Palace Picture House which has magically popped up in the square……
